Today we got up and went out to the Tonopah Mining Park where they have exhibits set up in an old silver mine. This mine was discovered in 1900. It was really interesting and a little scary!
This area of Nevada is not the most green. Below we are checking out a ‘grizzly.’ That’s where they sorted the good stuff from the waste stuff. Those are the technical terms.

We went in a tunnel that came out over one of the shafts. Here the guys are standing about a 300 ft. shaft. Eddie opted out.
If you see the two larger buildings in the background, you can tell where our hotel is. It’s not either of the larger buildings, but it is in front of the one on the left and across the street from the one on the right.
Here are veins of silver. They were too small to be worth it to mine. They were looking for ones 3 ft. or wider. I wonder how the heck they knew that was silver.
Then we went to the Nevada Museum which was also interesting. Lots of gold & silver mining in the area.
Next up was 4 loads of laundry and a grocery store run and a quiet afternoon. We all needed a little down time after our very busy week.
