This morning we drove east on the South Rim and stopped at a couple of places. It was so quiet early in the morning. All the hordes of people were not out yet. Below is the Desert View Tower made to look old, but it is only a little over a hundred years old. It was very neat.
Then we continued around the canyon to get to the North Rim. It took us about 4 1/2 hours through very lonely country. There were so many different landscapes we drove through. Below it looked like piles of dirt, but they were rock.
This was at the town of Marble Canyon. Looked like we were going to drive right into the cliff!
Crossing the Colorado River. It looks very green.
Once we entered the park there were miles of this remnant from the 2000 fire.
Then we were in a conifer forest,
with meadows,
and bison. We also saw an elk today.
Here are Marty & Eddie at the North Rim outside the Grand Canyon Lodge. When they say that the North Rim is less developed than the South, they really mean there is only one hotel and restaurant and there are no railings on any of the paths.
I discovered that my fear of heights is ferocious on this kind of path. I could not finish it to the end.
I sat quietly and looked at the canyon and watched the lizard while the rest of my family went on the the end of the point. Yikes!
Here is our cabin. Just beyond the next cabin is the canyon. Boy, am I glad we are not in the next cabin!
Below is Charlie with Brighty—well, the statue of Brighty. The book by Marguerite Henry was based on a true burro and many of the facts in it are also true.
Below is the lobby of the Grand Canyon Lodge looking into the sun room which has huge windows overlooking the canyon. We ate in the restaurant and also had a view of the canyon.
Mark took a picture of the Corvette convention in the parking lot.
This is where I sat to wait for the rest of the family.
