We started the morning at the Basilica Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi. The cathedral was beautiful inside and the Mass was very nice. There was a baptism so it went longer than usual and we had to rush back to the hotel afterwards to check out on time.
After lunch we went to the Georgia O’Keefe museum. They had some permanent paintings and drawings but also some photos of her doing regular things around her home in NM. There was also a special exhibit of Georgia O’Keefe and Ansel Adams: The Hawaii Years. Georgia went to Hawaii to do art for Dole Pineapple. But she did her own thing too. I don’t know why Ansel Adams went, but he took some amazing photographs.
Marty liked this flower best of O’Keefe’s Hawaii flowers.
After the museum we drove three hours across arid New Mexico (Dorothy, we are definitely not in MD anymore!). Tonight we are staying in Gallup, about 20 miles from Arizona at the El Rancho hotel on Rte. 66. The El Rancho has been here since 1937 and many, many stars stayed here while they were shooting Westerns.
We are in the Jimmy Stewart room. Each room is named after a famous guest. Others include: Bob Hope, Ronald Reagan, John Wayne…and many more. The room is comfortable and there is a lot of atmosphere.
How about that sandwich?
