I forgot to mention that yesterday we crossed the Continental Divide. It was 7200 ft. Today we were mostly at 5000 ft. though we did climb to 7000 at one point.
We left Gallup and after an hour we came to The Petrified Forest National Park where the first thing we learned is that Arizona stays on Mountain Standard Time all year so we are now on the same time as Pacific Time.
The Petrified Forest is in the Painted Desert, so we saw that too. It was amazing!!!

It was so windy! And it got windier the farther we went into the park. They said the wind could be as high as 50mph and I’m sure we were in that sometimes.
Below is a polished piece of petrified wood. It weighs 800 pounds!

Below, I tried to take a picture of my shadow so you could see my hair going crazy, but it was hard to snap it at just the right time. The wind wasn’t blowing consistently in one direction.
The wind was horrendous for the rest of the 3 1/2 hour drive to Sedona. We were glad we weren’t in a big RV! We drove by Winslow Arizona, but it was too windy to get out and stand on a corner.
Sedona is absolutely gorgeous!
The Desert Quail Inn is lovely with awesome views, as you can tell. Since we have driven just about 4000 miles, I went and got the oil changed while the rest of the family went swimming. We went to the Oak Village Brewery for dinner and it was great.
