The 5 of us got out early to go to the Royal Geographic Society’s special exhibition of the Shackleton expedition pictures that had been digitally remastered. It was incredible. The photographer was insane. He would climb up into the masts carrying his heavy camera and take pictures. He would head off over chunky ice to get a picture of the boat trapped in the ice. He fished his metal negative plates out of the icy water when the boat sank. He hauled a barrel of developing solution, over 100 metal plates, and camera equipment on their flight and fight for survival. But he got some AMAZING pictures!
Then we met Mom & Dad at the Natural History Museum. We went and had lunch and then hit the museum. That was major museum! They have a room called ‘Treasures.’ In it are 22 things that sparked new theories, controversies, or are particularly interesting. Audubon’s bird book, 1st Edition of Darwin’s Origin of species, the fossils that led people to discover dinosaurs, the fragment of moon rock the US gave to Great Britain, etc. That was really interesting.
Then we split into 3 groups and explored a bit. Charlie and I did a quick spin through the mammals and then spent time with bugs.
