January 11

Monday morning Dad, Mom, Marty & I went on the scavi tour at St. Peter’s. Scavi means excavation. The tour was of the excavation they had done under St. Peter’s to find the tomb of Peter that was supposed to be there. It was amazing! No pictures were allowed though, so you’ll have to go yourselves!

Below is a picture of the papal altar with the baldichino made by Bernini. St. Peter’s tomb is directly underneath.

After lunch we took a walk to the Castel San’Angelo which is down the road from St. Peter’s. It used to be a papal palace. But first, it was built by Hadrian to be his tomb.
