Today we had a 6 hour drive from Houston to New Orleans. It went well. The weather is the same as the past week—hot and humid! The last half of the trip was wild. Bridges almost half the time. Swampy areas, lakes, rivers, bays…
Our hotel is right downtown 2 blocks from the French Quarter. It is very nice.
We had a nice seafood dinner at Deanie’s. Mark had crawfish ettouffee. I had grilled redfish, Eddie had fried shrimp and Marty had fried catfish. Charlie had chicken nuggets and french fries. What a surprise.
See these innocuous looking potatoes? They are not innocuous tasting. I think they are boiled in hot sauce. Mark and I were saving room for dinner, so we didn’t have any, but all 3 kids wanted some, but not for long! Much Sprite was consumed very quickly.
After dinner, we walked around the French Quarter. Avoiding Bourbon St.
Actually, we had to cross Bourbon St. This is the corner of Bourbon and St. Peters St.

Charlie likes the big beds in our hotel room. The boys went right to sleep tonight after our busy weekend and lots of walking this evening. Looking forward to another day in the Big Easy tomorrow.
I think Bourbon St. is pretty innocuous in daylight. Those potatoes ARE something else. The shrimp they are boiled with don't get nearly that hot!
ReplyDeleteBabz, the front desk warned us to just avoid it with kids because "there's a lot of risque stuff going on there." From the little we saw of it, it was good to avoid it. Already at 7 pm, many partying people, innappropriate bar names, etc.
