This morning we decided to ride the streetcar down Canal St. to go to the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas. Except we got on the wrong streetcar line. So, I figured it out in several blocks. And we got out, walked a block and caught the streetcar back to where we started. Then we got on the right one, just as the rain started.
Here we are waiting for the streetcar.
We finally did make it to the Aquarium.
We saw an IMAX movie—3D Deep Ocean. It was OK. Kind of jumped around with no real unifying theme except it was all in the ocean. Charlie fell asleep in it (since he got up at 4:45—boo!)
The kids really enjoyed the aquarium. We had to drag Charlie away from the playing area though.
Luckily, the rain had stopped when we left. But we had to wait for a train to go by before crossing the street.
Next we went to the Audubon Insectarium. It was gross.
Giant centipede.
A bug. Get it?
I did not take pictures of the tarantulas, dung beetles, termites, or other creepy bugs.
The butterflies were beautiful, though.
Poor Mark lost his Swiss Army knife. The Insectarium was in a federal building and we had to go through security and he couldn’t bring it in. They told him to hide it outside, but it was gone when we got out. Sigh.
We walked several blocks to the Kupcake Factory and enjoyed a snack of gourmet cupcakes. The chocolate was really, really yummy! Eddie & Marty had birthday cake and Charlie had blueberry.
Now we are having quiet time in the airconditioned hotel room. Phew!
