Day 56—to De Smet, SD, the Little Town on the Prairie

We started out the day at the North Dakota Heritage Center where we learned about the dinosaurs and early people in the area. Above is the “Skyscraper of the Prairie,” the N. Dakota state capital building.

Then we had a 5 hour (short!) drive to De Smet where we are staying in the Prairie House Manor B&B. It used to be Banker Ruth’s house. He was mentioned in the books Laura wrote about her time in De Smet (5 total –Silver Lake, Little Town, Long Winter, Those Happy Golden Years, and the First Four Years).

After dinner we went to the cemetery. This is Pa’s gravestone.
