Acquiring a Beardie

For Marty’s birthday, Mark & I contributed toward getting a bearded dragon for Marty. He also contributed. Eddie & Charlie got him 2 books about keeping beardies (as they are affectionately known.) Marty has had 1 topic of conversation this week. I’ll give you a hint, it’s not Pokemon for a change! Friday we went and bought the tank and accoutrements and started setting things up. We baked rocks and branches and bleached tank and other things to clean things on Saturday. Saturday night the tank was arranged. Lights went on Tuesday evening. Yesterday we monitored the temperature and humidity levels and today we elevated the basking rock a little to hopefully make it a little warmer. About an hour ago we went and got Spit Fyre, a juvenile bearded dragon. We don’t know if it is a boy or a girl yet; but we are referring to Spitfire as ‘he’ until we know. Spit Fyre is from the Septimus Heap books—the dragon in the books is called Spit Fyre.

Charlie was quite intrigued.

Checking us out. Spit Fyre was exploring the tank shortly after he was introduced to it and is hanging on the basking rock right now.

Marty’s friend went with us to make the purchase. And we are the proud owners of small crickets too. Spit Fyre needs to eat them as well as collard greens and other vegetables.
