Today the kids and I took a road trip to Monticello. It was a 3 hour drive down and a 4 hour drive back. It was really interesting. Even Charlie was mostly interested. He told Mark that Jefferson’s bedspread was pink. (It was really crimson, which was all the rage in France, but it looked pink to me and Charlie!)
Above is Charlie in a replica of Jefferson’s swivel chair that he invented. And also a replica of the ‘copier’ Jefferson used to make copies of the 19,000 letters he wrote!
Here is a view from the path by his house. There were some extensive gardens. Jefferson had 5,000 acres of fields, orchards, vegetable gardens and ornamental gardens.

The ‘nickel view.’ What’s on the back of the nickel. We couldn’t take pictures in the house. But it was really neat. They used the room under the dome for storage!

Jefferson’s tomb. You can see we had a gorgeous day for the tour.
We all learned a lot about Jefferson and his home!
